On June 27th, 2011, ECS worked in coordination with a group of college students to provide aid to children affected by the March, 11th earthquake in the Tohoku region of Japan.
Akita International University students, Takuya Matsuzawa, Fumito Suzuki, Tatsuki Park, and Alexandra Herrera our very own ECS volunteer, traveled to Iwate prefecture to hand deliver letters of encouragement collected from Chaminade College Preparatory Middle School, located in Chatsworth, California, to three elementary schools on the coastline of Iwate prefecture. In addition to delivering the letters of encouragement, ECS provided two of the schools with jump-ropes, soccer balls, basketballs, and other sports equipment.
While visiting the schools, ECS volunteers learned about the earthquake and how the students were affected. ECS strongly believes and works with their motto of rebuilding lives on a personal level as they supported the people of Japan specially the children, while the rebuilding continues in the Tohoku region.
